Opinion and Persuasive Essay

Students will learn to write the argumentative essay, which focuses on developing a student’s ability to support a stated opinion using well made arguments. Students will write three to five paragraph essays, which is the structure favored by school teachers. Students will acquaint themselves with the various types of writing as required by the common core curriculum as they learn how to use facts in their papers and explain their topic concisely and clearly. Students will begin to learn how to research material for their essays.

Opinion Essay

Students will learn to write the opinion paragraphs, which focuses on developing a student’s ability to support a stated position in accordance to the common core curriculum. Students will use structure favored by school teachers. They also will learn how to plan and outline their essays properly before writing, as well as how to revise their essays.

Opinion Essays and Personal Narrative

Students will learn to write the persuasive essay, which focuses on developing a student’s ability to support a stated position, and the personal narrative, which focuses on a student’s ability to tell a true story from his/her life. Students will write three to five paragraph essays, which is the structure favored by school teachers. They also will learn how to plan and outline their writing properly before writing, as well as how to revise their writings.

Playwriting and Scriptwriting

Playwriting and scriptwriting will be taught during this session. Students who show interest in this type of writing will be encouraged to create plays or movies using their scripts.

Poetry, Playwriting, and Scriptwriting

Poetry, playwriting, and scriptwriting will be taught to all our students during the second session of the year. Students that show interest in any of these fields will be encouraged to work on them further and publish their works.

Public Speaking

Public speaking is the process of giving a lecture to a group of people in a structured manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the audience. Public speaking helps in boosting self-esteem and in critical thinking skills. In this class, students will to write and different types of speeches and the correct method of delivery.

Publishing

Students will learn how to convert their short stories into longer stories. The art of illustrations for the intermediate reader will also be discussed. Students will work towards publishing their own picture book, early reader, short story collection, chap book (collection of poetry), or comic. Some students may work towards finishing a chapter book.
