Persuasive Essay Writing

Students will learn to write the persuasive essay, which focuses on developing a student’s ability to support a stated opinion. Students will write three to five paragraph essays, which is the structure favored by school teachers. They also will learn how to plan and outline their essays properly before writing, as well as how to revise their essays.

Playwriting and Scriptwriting

Playwriting and scriptwriting will be taught during this session. Students who show interest in this type of writing will be encouraged to create plays or movies using their scripts.

Poetry, Playwriting, and Scriptwriting

Poetry, playwriting, and scriptwriting will be taught to all our students during the second session of the year. Students that show interest in any of these fields will be encouraged to work on them further and publish their works.

Public Speaking

Public speaking is the process of giving a lecture to a group of people in a structured manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the audience. Public speaking helps in boosting self-esteem and in critical thinking skills. In this class, students will to write and different types of speeches and the correct method of delivery.

Publishing

Students will learn how to convert their short stories into longer stories. The art of illustrations for the intermediate reader will also be discussed. Students will work towards publishing their own picture book, early reader, short story collection, chap book (collection of poetry), or comic. Some students may work towards finishing a chapter book.

Publishing Fiction

Picture books, intended for beginning readers, are created with limited prose and extensive illustrations. Chapter books, intended for intermediate readers, are created with extensive prose with a limited number of illustrations. Students in this class will learn how to convert their stories into picture books or into longer stories. They will also learn the art of illustrating for the beginning reader. The art of illustrations for the intermediate reader will also be discussed. Students will work towards publishing their picture book or chapter book.

Publishing Nonfiction

In creative nonfiction, or literary nonfiction, the student will learn how to portray facts accurately using literary devices and dramatic techniques. They will learn how to write travelogues, science writing, nature writing, and sports writing among other genre. This is the perfect transition into publishing for students who like writing essays and factual articles.

Publishing—Chapter Book

Chapter books are books intended for intermediate readers and are told with extensive prose with a limited number of illustrations. Students in this class will learn how to convert their short stories into longer stories. The art of illustrations for the intermediate reader will also be discussed. Students will work towards publishing their chapter books.

Publishing—Picture Book

Picture books are stories intended for the beginning reader and are told with limited prose and extensive illustrations. Students in this class will learn how to convert their stories into picture books. They will also learn the art of illustrating for the beginning reader. Students will work towards publishing their picture books.

Reading Comprehension

Reading is the art of decoding letters and words. Once this art is learned it is time for the student to comprehend or understand what is being read. Children will be taught different methods to analyze fiction and non-fiction.
